New Art work has just been installed on the Craigmore High School high level walkway.

Lifesize figures were laser-cutout from steel sheet metal and powdercoated, injecting some rhythm, life and colour to the existing grey buildings.

One of our smallest BER projects, the new learning commons at Springton Primary School has reached Practical Completion.

The refurbishment project linked two existing transportable classrooms with a new learning commons and northfacing outdoor learning area. We added large glass sliding doors to both classrooms to enable excellent sightlines and supervision of the new learning commons.

Beachpoint Apartments nearing completion

Beachpoint Apartments is a mixed use four level apartment development. Currently under construction and nearing completion with only minor outstanding items and site works to be completed very soon.

Colourful completion to Stage 2 of Christies Beach Police Station

Stage 2 of the extension of Christies Beach Police Station has been completed and occupied by SA Police. The colourful interior adds light and flexibility to the space accommodating over 40 staff. Completed early, and well within budget - indications are that the Staff are enjoying their new and fresh accommodation. Stage 3 works are about to commence and will be completed by late June 2010.

The Morphett Street multistorey apartment project is ready for Planning Approval

Here's the latest renders for our new apartment project in the west end of the city, which has just been lodged with Council for development plan consent:

Comprising of close to one hundred and eighty apartments (all with access to natural light and fresh air to every bedroom and living space), the building form is broken down into three main elements: A podium addressing Morphett Street, a tower section maximising north and south facing views, and a 'crown' setback on the top levels, with feature folded glass and vertical blades combating the western sun and spectacular views.

Natural ventilation stack system at Lochiel Park Apartments

The 23 Apartments and Townhouses at the Lochiel Park Green Village (currently 60% of the way thru the construction program) have many green features to boast. One of the most innovative is the natural ventilation stack system:

Each apartment has access to an individual ventilation shaft with a wind-powered rotary ventilator, controlled by a motorised louvre panel in the hallway linked to the AC system, and combined with operable windows in the living and bedroom spaces a naturally cooling cross ventilation effect will be created.

Feature pattern brickwork Under Construction

Currently Under Construction and due for completion later this year, the new Special Education Centre at Tyndale Christian School has three contrasting brickwork patterns indentifing the three main volumes of the centre.

The Junior school area (The Good Learning Centre) has large diagonal stripes with random tilt-shifts or breaks, as if the building has been shook or jilted, akin to a lighting strike.

The pattern wraps around each volume (entry under the canopy on the left).

The mid-section of the facility houses spaces for specialists in speech, physiotherapy and counselling as well as a life skills centre, and is identified by a 'space invaders' type pattern.

The brickies counted brick by brick off the elevations, matching the CAD hatching exactly.

The middle school (or The Zone) pattern is reminiscent of silted layers of earth, or perhaps a contour map.

A change in Leadership at Greenway

Greenway Architects wish to announce that as from the 1st January 2011, there will be a change in the leadership and ownership of the company.
Peter Hooper, a founding Director, is to step down as Managing Director and major shareholder and Peter Tynan and Simon Frost will become Directors and owners. Both Peter and Simon have held senior positions in the company for several years and each has significantly contributed to its reputation and growth. They are both highly regarded within the industry and their past active involvement in the management of the company will guarantee a seamless transition and ensure that the levels of service and quality for which Greenway is reknown, will continue under their leadership.
Peter Hooper will remain as a consultant to Greenway and will be available to provide advice and the benefit of his expertise gained from forty years of architectural practice across a wide range of project types.
Greenway has undergone substantial growth over the last five years with projected forward work providing an excellent platform for its development under new leadership. Current and recently completed projects include Uno Apartments, a 16 level residential development in the city, currently under construction, a recently approved 16 level residential development in Morphett Street due for construction commencement in 2011, Beachpoint Apartments, a multi levelled residential development at Christies Beach completed this year, Gilles Plains GP Plus Centre for which construction is about to commence, Roxby Downs Police Station completed this month, numerous corporate fitout projects and multiple education projects delivered under the Federal Government's stimulus package.

Murraylands Education Precinct Masterplan

Greenway recently pitched a Masterplan and fly-thru animation for the new Murraylands Educational Precinct, on behalf of the Regional Development authority and the Murray Bridge Council. We built a report based on the discussions and the objectives coming out of a series of workshops.

The vision of the Murray Bridge Educational Precinct will be to create a flexible and dynamic centre for educational excellence, delivering strategic learning pathways and outcomes for students and the community from Murray Bridge and its wider neighboring surrounds.

The design concept uses a new axis (or pedestrian link) from the river to the Precinct's Learning Mall, to provide a strong identity for the precinct and to act as the glue to hold the Precinct together. The axis runs from the existing DECS building and links into the new entry of focal point for the Precinct in the refurbished TAFE Building 1. It is envisioned that in future the axis could even continue as far northwards to create direct links with any future possible development along the frontage of the River Murray.

The architectural aesthetic of the new Murray Bridge Education Precinct will be a contemporary one, with many different building elements to break-down the mass of the buildings to a human scale. A common architectural language and a material palette of timber screens, off form concrete, folded sheet metal, steel, glass, and "green" (vegetated) walls link the Precinct buildings together, while providing distinct character and identity for each of the elements, and reserving the biggest visual impact for the Precinct's key entry points and focal points.

Existing buildings will be modernized both internally and externally to improve their appearances, and also to improve their energy efficiency, flexibility and functionality. New facilities will be designed to engage with their natural and built environments, to provide transparent ‘skins' whereby the internal functions of the buildings can engage both physically and visually with the external environment within which they sit.

Greenway Architects would like to announce the appointment of Jon Lowe to the role of Senior Architect. Jon is a gifted designer who has been working for Greenway for over five years. In 2007, Jon was selected to attend the highly sought after Glen Murcutt master class and this is a testament to his creativity and design ability.
Jon is passionate about design and challenging ideas and has completed a number of projects recently which you can view on our website, including the very challenging Ladder Port Adelaide project just completed and the Lochiel Park Affordable Housing Project both for Housing SA, and the Tyndale Christian School New Special Education Centre.

Roxby Downs Police Station Opens

Greenway's latest Police Station gets a write up on the Adelaide Now Website:

The growing population of Roxby Downs will have an increased police presence when its new $10 million police station opens its doors tomorrow.

Designed to accommodate the future expansion of policing resources, Roxby Downs Police Station has a large Patrol Base and room for the specialist areas of Criminal Investigation Branch, Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Services and Criminal Justice Service.

Officer in Charge of the Far North Local Service Area Superintendent James Blandford says the new police station will have a capacity of up to 30 police officers.

"The new police station is purpose built to accommodate the extra police services we need now and into the future with our local community expanding," he says.A police statement says the facility boasts state of the art technology which will provide local police with the most modern cell complex aimed at improving police safety and ensuring the welfare of prisoners.

The cell complex includes three holding cells, a padded cell, enclosed exercise yard and administrative and support areas.

A training/conference room, laboratory and forensic vehicle examination shed and a new secure car park complete the facility.

The project, which officially commenced in November 2009, will be officially opened for business tomorrow by Police Commissioner Mal Hyde.

Heritage Award for the Ladder Project

Last night the Ladder Project won the Adaptation and Re-use category of the Port Adelaide Enfield Council Heritage Award. Congratulations to all the Greenway Team, including Peter Tynan, Jon Lowe, Samantha Hay, Hannah Baison and Jarrad McGaffin. We would also like to recognise the efforts of our consultant team, namely, Bruce Harry Architects (Heritage), W & G (Structural & Civil), SECON (Services), Sonus (Acoustics), Davis Langdon (QS) and Tecon (Certification).

Candetti Constructions did a fantastic job with a very complex and fragile building site - thanks to Graham Cox, Anthony Burns, and George Floros.

A special thanks to Julian Aggiss (Housing SA/ DFC) for his vision, determination, and perserverance.

Mausoleum update
